Ben X
I never heard of the film but the cover says it had won awards and was supposed to be a Belgian entry but failed to receive actual nomination in the Best Foreign Language Film category of Academy Awards 2007, so I bought it anyway.
The film was about Ben. He had Asperger’s Syndrome.
According to Wikipedia...
Asperger syndrome or Asperger's syndrome is an autism spectrum disorder that is characterized by significant difficulties in social interaction, along with restricted and repetitive patterns of behavior and interests. It differs from other autism spectrum disorders by its relative preservation of linguistic and cognitive development.
Ben goes to a school with normal kids and because of his condition, he was always bullied. His only escape is the game Archlord wherein he is in a very high level and he was considered a hero, where he can fight anyone else. He was accompanied by a healer named Scarlite. Usually, she becomes his strength. This is based on a true story of a boy with Asperger’s who commited suicide because of bullying.

Letters to Juliet
I
’ve seen a comment in YouTube saying how Amanda Seyfried loves “letter” films (remember Dear John?), wala lang, it was a nice observation, hehe.
Anyway, I bought this because I just saw it and it was the only new film which is a love story, just plain love story, because I was in the mood for a light love story.
The film was a web of cliché storylines: boy and girl in a relationship but boy doesn’t have a lot of time, finding a lost love, some realizations of who you really love, in short, you know how the story goes as well as know the ending.
But I love it, I don’t know, maybe because I’m in the mood for a love story? And whenever that happens, I was such a sucker for cliché romance? I really don’t see the point of liking the movie since I really don’t like Amanda Seyfried (ever since Mamma Mia! and most especially when I knew she’ll play Savannah in Dear John), it wasn’t so much of a comedy when they were claiming it’s a romantic-comedy, and blah blah blah.
But I didn’t get bored, and I guess I know why...
Because all the while I was thinking of finding my Romeo too (hay nagdrama duman ko ah)...
I guess I watched it because I was curious how the part 2 will go. I was not hooked. I kept on changing channels, to Star Movies with the movie Fired Up!, even though it was the singing/dancing scene. I don’t like the songs. And I was really thinking they went from the “Glee-format” to “HSM format”. In part 1, they sing and dance because it is really in the story that they are singing and dancing. In part 2, they just break into the singing and dancing parts and have conversations through singing and dancing. Also, I don’t feel the Shane-Mitchie team up, they seem to be good in part one.
I also didn’t find the last performances a blast.
I think the only blast was the movie trailer.
That’s all.

I thought it was cool and at the same time, I consider it as a challenge even though busy-busyhan ang girl sa life because of the start of summer duty. I don't think there are any prizes or some administrator checking up on your blog or whatsoevers. It's plainly writing an entry everyday for the whole month of May.Labels: blogging, friends, movie review, time

"Although love is game that should be played well, it still takes honesty and not manipulation to make it work."
It was a typical love story of a perfect guy and a not-so-perfect-girl who fell in love because of their clashed beliefs where one realizes that his/hers was wrong. But I love the story development and how it ended. For me, it had convinced me that a perfect guy could fall for a not-so-perfect girl. That is unlike some movies or TV shows which, in a snap, he just realizes he's in love with the stupid-acting girl because he loves making fun of her. I think that would be nonsense.
Anyway, they had this scene where Robin Heiden (Mr. Perfect) was telling Min-joon (the not-so-perfect girl) about the reasons why her past relationships doesn't work. He was pointing out that she just gives everything in the relationship which turns her into the underdog of the relationship. When Min-joon's ex-boyfriend returns to her, she asks his help to make the relationship work this time around. And then, this ex-boyfriend opened up to Min-joon that he had noticed her change and that he misses the old Min-joon who was all-caring, etc. Then Min-joon confronts Robin saying:
"I’m curious. What if, in manipulating people, we lose the pleasure of an honest conversation? Why use manipulation if we can’t discover one’s true feelings?"
That's it.
And also, I love Daniel Henney.
Yah.

I've watched the movie last night because my friend recommended it. I loved it just until midway. This is based on a comic or something of the same title or also called A Chance of Sunshine. I've taken this summary of the comic from a blog:
It was such a simple story, a story that can't be simpler. There was a girl and there was a boy. They lived next to each other, where a wall is shared by the building they lived in. They lived in this small city and they went across each other everyday many times. But, she always turned left when she went out the building and he always turned right. She always turned left at the tube station and he always turned right. She always looked at left side in the bus and he always looked at the right side. Just like this, they have been there for on one knows how long but never meet. One day, just that one day, the joke in the heaven came down to the earth. The big shower made them know the existence of each other for the first time in the park. Maybe love did happen on the first sight. At least in their case it did. The shower stopped and they had to go. So they exchanged their numbers. But right after they parted, both of them lost it. Then, in the little city with nothing special, there were two people seeking their love. They were looking everyplace they knew of, everything they could think of. Every night, they were sleepless and sat in their room and listened to the same song. They passed away each other just in the same way while she turned left at the same place where he turned right. Two hearts had finally been broken and the pain made them unable to stay in their city of sadness so both of them decided to leave, in the same day. At that day, the girl left the building and went to the park for the last time and so did the boy. They stood there on the lawn where there was only a big tree separate them. Both of them didn't say a word, didn't know the existence of each other either, and at the end, the girl went left and the boy went right. They never meet again.
I believe that was supposedly the story. However, with movie adaptations, they always tend to change the story. For me, the first half was already "solemn"... you know, you can feel the pain of being star-crossed. I just don't like them putting an another-girl-and-another-boy who supposedly knew about their faith but then made a pact that they will keep them apart. I don't know how to explain it, sorry if you're confused. All I can say is that the another-girl-and-another-boy had destroyed the solemnity of the story. They just looked stupid. If they were not acting funny, I would have liked the concept of another-girl-and-another-boy who are keeping the main characters apart. Haiz.
Also, I didn't like the ending. It was like a joke.
I would have loved it if they stick to the original storyline, even though it's kind of tragic, sort of. But then it's a movie and they have to make it interesting, whatever.
The movie had mentioned about parallels, going the same directions but never meet.
Also, there was this nice poem used. It was a Polish poem by Wislawa Szymborska.

I've watched this film a few nights ago. I love the humor of the film and loved every kid in the film, really. It was told in a number of shorts, and when it was about to end, episode five, I was like, "Huh? Asta lang episode five?" For me, it's super entertaining.
Movie's lesson:
"Be careful what you wish for 'coz you just might get it." - a line from When I Grow Up by Pussycat dolls
also...
"Having the power to have anything you want can be dangerous especially if you don't know your limits."
What would you wish for if you have the rock?

Comments will come later as I have to sleep for now.
Uhm, I changed my mind. I can't wait 'til morning to comment on this movie.
All I can say is that I love this film whether you think it is nonsense or it is a dark film or that it has a message.
The actress playing Alexandria (the little girl) was just soooo innocent. Read it in Wikipedia about how she played it so naturally.
And also, I love Lee Pace here. I knew I know him somewhere. He's the guy in Pushing Daisies. But then his character here was different and I like how he carried it. He is just perfect as the Bandit.
FYI, this movie is one of the many movies that has a trailer which says it all. But I'll say that watching the whole movie is still worth it.
Below is one of the scenes which I think the little girl was so natural with her reaction during her interaction with Roy. You'll love her.
